Grandma and the train museum

We went down to New Braunfels for a day of fun with Grandma! When we arrived we spent some time at the house to play with toys and run around outside for a little while before jumping back into the car. We then made our way to New Braunfels' town square, which is really a circle...

We parked the car and were walking toward the train museum when the adults got sidetracked by a shop with cute dresses in the windows, so we had to go in. After some purchases were made, we focused on the kids' activities again and made it to the museum. A nice man talked us through the history of the local train lines and how the area had evolved into its present railway state. He was also the 'conductor' of the large model train display and turned everything on for us. There are ladders strategically placed, especially for little ones, to watch the different trains make their way through the maze of tracks, mountains, valleys, towns, etc. - it's really impressive. I believe he said that the display was ten years in the making and they are always brainstorming about cool things to add; okay, he probably didn't say "cool"...

We were then led outside through a steam engine and several different train cars, and vehicles that travelled on the track for the purpose of fixing the track or aiding the trains in some way. The museum recently procured an actual steamer trunk used by travelers of the 'olden days' and it was much bigger than Tristan. I can only imagine how heavy it was when it was fully loaded with belongings.

We walked to a nearby restaurant for lunch and then made our way back to the museum to see the model trains run one more time. The kids were asleep before we made our way out of the town circle and it was a pretty quiet ride home.

Just a note: We're all very proud of the progress being made at the Seal household, towards the goal of becoming non-smokers. So far, they have been smoke free since January 9th! Keep up the good work, guys!
