Concert in the park - June 2009

We joined a group of friends for an evening of live music in the park. Our good friends' neighborhood association puts on a series of concerts in the park throughout the summer. Always looking to get outside and let our kids experience all types of music, we gladly participated in the outing. We laid down about six blankets, surrounded by lawn chairs, and the whole group had a dinner picnic. There was chatting, singing, dancing, running and even a time when the guys took the kids to the playground.

Tristan was not a fan of the park bathrooms and after trying to convince him that it would be fine, I ended up walking him back to our friends' house. Good thing they don't live far from the park and good thing he could "hold it" so long.

This picture makes me smile.

Thanks Firemen!

We joined Maddy and Danielle in downtown Kyle, for a visit from some firefighters. They gave a talk, took questions, blared the sirens and let the kids crawl all over the truck. For the grand finale, they hooked up the truck to a fire hydrant and hosed down half the block. It was pretty cool.

They cut their water-usage time in half, compared to previous hose-downs, as we are in a drought (um, every summer we experience a drought and people still act surprised when it happens, seriously). I'm glad they still did it, though, even for just a few minutes.

Young artists

This is not what they were supposed to be doing... But, doesn't it look like they were having fun? Maybe the incredibly hideous floor that resides in our kitchen could use some more sprucing up with crayons. Everywhere.

I gave them a (half-hearted) talking-to, but honestly I wasn't all that upset. Plus, it cleaned up pretty easily. I just hope that they don't recreate this after we upgrade the floor to something nicer.

Zuzu and Daddy

Zuzu and Daddy were just hanging out together and then Daddy took the fun up a couple of notches. He started tickling her, holding her up like an airplane, anything that would bring on the baby giggle fit.

Oh, our beautiful little scraggly-haired baby, we love you and your giggles!

An afternoon at the lake - June 2009

It worked out that Renae, James and I were all available on a weekday afternoon. So, we took the opportunity to take the boat out, while avoiding the crazy weekend lake traffic. We love these mid-week trips. They are safer, quieter, more relaxing, etc. The kids love it too! Check it out!

Handprints

Renae watched the kids for us one night and she took this picture for us. They'd all had icecream and while most of it made it into their bellies, some of it was used as a new art medium.

Maddy's Birthday

Cousin Maddy is almost exactly a year older than Genevieve and a year younger than Tristan. Right now, Tristan and Maddy have the most fun together while Genevieve is "just a baby." I'm sure that will change in the coming years and the three of them will have a blast together. We attended Maddy's birthday party and had a lot of fun. There was a pool with a cool slide, bubbles, toys, and of course, cake. Both kids were tuckered out from the excitement of it all and gave Mommy and Daddy a nice chance to enjoy the company of the other adults, and adult beverages.

Tristan wants to ride a jet-airplane

Since we visited the USS Lexington in Corpus, Tristan knows that something better and faster than your run of the mill airplane exists, and they are called JET airplanes. The other day he wanted to ride in a jet airplane and I told him to do that he would have to go to school and learn to be a pilot. He then wanted to ride in a regular airplane and I told him that you have to buy tickets and that takes money, and we didn't have any airplane ticket money. He went into the kitchen and was rustling around, opening and closing drawers and loudly making the "hmmm" sound and saying, "let me think." I asked him what he was doing and he said he was looking for money. Then he promptly closed another drawer and said, "no money in there!"

Silly cutie boy...

Random June 2009

Here's a snapshot of a few things we did in June.

We painted masterpieces on the sidewalk.

We made smiley face cookies

We rode mechanical vehicles in the mall's play area, in an attempt to escape the heat.

'Monkey' had to eat breakfast with us.

We built train tracks.

We smiled a lot.

Renae and I used fondant for the first time, to make a baby shower cake for our friend Tiffany.

We had our annual "fill the pool" ceremony, complete with lawn chairs and margaritas.

We went to our friend Noah's pool party!
