Apparently, we read books on the “crouton” and not the futon. He he.
This morning Tristan was sniffly. I asked him if he needed a tissue for his nose. He sniffed once more and said, “no Mama, I’m keeping the boogers in my nose.” Thanks little guy for clearing that up for me.
Genevieve’s verbal progress:
Genevieve still only sort of has words. She says, “Mama” but most of the time it’s more like “mamamamamaaaa,” so does that mean I can claim it? I’m not sure, especially when she chooses these sounds for the soundtrack of an entire day, “Maamaamamama.” At some point she’s probably not singing about how great I am.
She sometimes says “momomo.” This fits when she’s in the high chair and I can tell she’s still hungry and actually wants more, but again, is this coincidence or for real?
“Bye, bye,” or really, “ba ba” with an accompanying waving hand does happen once in a while, so I think she officially has “bye, bye” down. It’s not dependable and when it happens, more often than not, it’s after the person she’s supposed to be waving to finally turns their back to walk out to a car or the door closes. I promise, she does it.
Lastly, besides “bye, bye” I think her next real word will be “ball.” She loves playing with balls and makes the sound “ba ba ba” at the appropriate times. Sorry Daddy, you’ve been upstaged by a round, rolling toy!
Just an added tidbit:
I’m secretly (well, I guess not so secretly since I’m posting this to the world) happy that she is trying to say ball instead of babydoll or princess. We’re trying to be pretty equal on the toys we introduce; we have blocks and babies, a train table and a kitchen, etc. I don’t want to pigeon-hole my kids into gender-specific roles or interests. Judging from friends’ kids we may be forced into all things princess at some point and I’m not sure that I will be able to truly embrace the cuteness of small children dressed in sparkles and plastic high heels, or just smile and nod at my daughter while I get sick inside. I was not a fan of Barbie (I’m guessing this is the generational equivalent of the princess craze). After you dress them up, what fun are they? What do you do with them (besides the you-no-what with Ken, even if you don’t know what the you-know-what is!)? Lame toy. However, I loved babies and playing ‘Mommy’ and I loved playing with my dollhouse. I would make up stories in each of those settings. I guess this could have been done with Barbies, but since I only had one and the rest of the world had a whole collection, complete with tons of clothes, the mansion, and the sportscar, maybe I just subconsciously was jealous and made up my mind that they were stupid. At some point, somehow, my one Barbie’s hair got cut into a short, spiky ‘do with crazy rockstar, single huge-curl bangs. I honestly can’t say whether it was me or Adam that did that. It couldn’t have been “sweet, little, innocent Renae.” Ha! The words (or implied opinion) of my parents… Okay, well really, I doubt that it was her because for the most part, that description rang, and still rings pretty true. Love ya, Nae Nae! For what it’s worth I think it was me and I thought that haircut was edgy and looked really cool. I also cut Adam’s hair and to this day, I hold the opinion that “the layers” looked awesome (Karate Kid layers for a visual).
*And yeah, GI Joe and He-Man can co-exist along side a dollhouse family; a My Little Pony and a Mon-chi-chi can be the family pets, and GI Joe’s jeep and the old Fisher-Price airplane can be the family vehicles! We sure had some fun together when we were little!

Shelly and Nathan's Wedding
There's not much else to say about this experience except that it was special, fun, simple, elegant, intimate, and fabulous.

Our good friends, Karen and Lee.

James and I headed back to our room before much of the dancing and real partying occurred. We were one of only two silly couples that brought kids, and our babysitter time expired before the all-night party did. Thanks Michael and Melanie for sharing a sitter with us! Does anyone else out there know how nerve wracking it is to find a trustworthy, responsible person to watch your kids while you're at a resort, away from your home town??? Luckily, Shelly is from the area and helped us find someone. AND, we were on-site and really less than 100 yards away from the rooms. James and Michael took turns checking on the sitter and our little ones, while Melanie and I enjoyed ourselves. Yay!

Proof that the adults played on the beach too! Although there were atleast 20 other people there, Laura and Lee where the only ones to make it into a picture on our camera...

Here's just a little goody from the Bachellorette party a few weeks earlier in Austin!

Port Aransas
We spent a weekend in Port Aransas for the wedding of good friends, Shelly and Nathan. There was a rather large group that made the trip and we all stayed at the same hotel. Actually, I think our group filled all the rooms of the entire place, which was very cool. In between activities, doors were open and people were hanging out on the porches because everyone knew everyone. We took the play'n'play for Genevieve to sleep in and ended up pushing two chairs together to make the perfect bed for Tristan. Did you notice that his "birdies" also made the trip? Yep, we take them everywhere.
There will be pictures from the actual wedding in the next post, but first some pictures from the beach and other fun stuff. We visited the aquarium where James and Tristan got to touch sting rays and we saw a dolphin show and we also spent time touring the retired aircraft carrier, the USS Lexington. Both places were fun, but our first day at the Lexington felt a bit rushed, so we went back the next day so James and I could soak up some more history. It's very humbling to walk, crawl, climb through spaces that the brave men and women that serve our country once walked, crawled and climbed through. Pretty much, our weekend was perfect!
Things I want to remember - 6/9/09
Things I want to remember:
Tristan’s word for octagons is “ockygons” and he is very good at spotting them (stop signs and the stop sign that folds out on school buses). We have to draw and paint ockygons quite often.
“Slippy soap” = slippery soap = bar soap, as compared to “squirty” soap.
We went to a wedding and Tristan was sure that Frosty the Snowman was singing one of the songs. I was kind of surprised that he remembers and thinks about Frosty since December was so many months ago. Obviously he is remembering more and more now.
Tristan got a Handy Manny doll with all of the little tools for his birthday. One day before school, he had to kiss and hug each of the tools before he and James could walk out the door and be on their way. We have such a loving, snuggly boy!
There is a construction office trailer set up on a construction site not far from our house. Tristan calls it the “train car stuck in the dirt” and he always wants to call someone to help the train car. Since I told him we don’t have a train or a vehicle big enough to help the stranded train car, he always “calls” (on his pretend cell phone) Bob the Builder or Handy Manny.
There are a number of paper airplanes currently strewn around the house. Every time I spot a wadded up piece of paper across the room and go over to pick it up and throw it in the trash, it turns out that it’s actually a well-loved and played with paper airplane. I smile to myself and leave it there. Invariably, it will be picked up and thrown across the room, to fly “faster, faster,” at some point in the day. The toys and paper airplanes everywhere give me the warm fuzzies inside and I’m so thankful to be at this point in my life, with little ones taking over my heart and my home. I know that before I’m ready, there won’t be toys around to step on because my babies will be “too cool” for toys. I don’t think wadded up gym socks on the floor will bring quite the rush of emotions that paper airplanes currently do, but we’ll see – I’m a sap…

Cousin Jordan's Birthday
Jordan turned the big "3" and we went to her house to help her celebrate. She requested a pink horsey cake and Nicole delivered! I made Jordan a super hero cape, complete with a sparkley star on the back and it seemed to be a big hit. After cake and presents we headed outside where Nicole and Jeremy showed us their "mad skillz" on the sticks. James got a quick lesson from Jeremy while Aunt Nicole helped Tristan try. Happy Birthday Jordan!
