The ladybug party! Genevieve is ONE!

Since our beautiful little girl was born two days after her older brother's birthday, their birthday parties were scheduled for the same day, to keep it simple for family and friends. We had two completely separate themes and sang "Happy Birthday" to each child, separately.

I came up with this design for an invitation, after pouring over hundreds of “ladybug” invitations and not loving any of them. Renae helped me put these together, which was quite a project itself. I love how they turned out and they’re completely original. No one else will ever have an invitation like this and I like that thought.

See, Genevieve likes the tractor just as much as her big brother. Who wouldn’t like a motorized tractor, really?

Here is the fabulous cake that I pictured in my mind, brought to life by Nana Carol (Luis’ mother). The ladybug is Genevieve’s personal “smash cake” and Carol surprised me by adding the other little ladybugs that she made, for presentation. It turned out fabulous! I couldn’t have been more pleased. I like the thought of my kids having homemade birthday cakes, but I know my limitations, and there’s NO WAY I could have pulled this off. I love it!

In case you can’t see it, the favor bags say, “We’re buzzing with joy, the day has come! Our sweet little Genevieve is turning ONE!”

The back of the card says, “Thank you for celebrating with us!”

The Hershey kisses have ladybug stickers on the bottoms. It’s the little details that make it special, right?

The cake table included a copy of Dr. Suess’ “Happy Birthday to You!” book. We asked guests to sign it and write a special little note to Genevieve. We started this tradition with Tristan for his first birthday and I hope these books are something that the kids will treasure long into the future.

Of course there were cute plates and napkins. Did you doubt me? Party planning is one of my favorite things to do!

Our special girl looking at her first birthday candle, as the “Happy Birthday” song was sung by a bunch of people that love her.

“Hmm. They put this bug thing in front of me. What do they expect me to do with it?”

“Oh, I know. I’ll stick it in my mouth, just like I do with all of the pebbles on the playground. Wow! This taste is intriguing!”

Surrounded by onlookers. I also love the ladybug balloons.

"This stuff is good. I’m just going to dive right in!”

“What?! You’re the one that gave it to me. You didn’t expect me to make a mess?”

Cousin Ashley helping with the mess containment and removal. Genevieve was having a good time, but no one wanted to touch her! Notice the special cupcake bib, courtesy of Gran!

And, straight to the bathtub we went. We stripped off one piece of clothing at a time, rinsing more cake and frosting off at each interval.

Genevieve had a lot of fun in the bathtub too.

Friends enjoy cake and goodies.

Genevieve was blessed to have her Godparents attend her first birthday party, since they now live in L.A. Thanks Aunt Keelie and Uncle Mike, we love you!

Genevieve is beaming, while Aunt Nicole, cousin Jordan and friend Noah, have fun too.

More fun happening upstairs in the playroom.

Renae’s good friends (and our good friends, too), Nick and Tiffany Williams, came to help celebrate. Even baby Bristol made it to the party (by way of her Mommy’s belly).

More friends having fun!

Genevieve exploring a present. We didn’t have a chance to open her presents during the party and I apologize for that. I always like to see a child open the present that I gifted them, but time ran out. Plus, it seems to be a trend that presents are not opened during parties now. This is new and kind of weird to me. I’m not sure if it’s a Southern/Texas thing or just a “this generation” thing.

The next day, when Genevieve was rested and more interested in gifts, we dove in. Cousin Jordan is way in to princess stuff, and as such Aunt Nicole has embraced the princess craze. The present from their family was in this cute princess bag, complete with detachable princess crown. Genevieve was a fan!
